Sonic Investigations
Worked on creating a spatial audio workflow for use in sonic investigations. Earshot deliver sonic investigations for communities affected by corporate, state, and environmental injustice.
My responbibilties included:
Utilised Unreal with Wwise’s spatial audio tools to simulate acoustics of real world spaces for evidence gathering.
Taught members of the team how to use Wwise & Unreal effectively.
Sound Propagation solutions in video games have become further advanced over the past 10 years, and even more accessible, I actually ended up doing my dissertation of Sound Propagation solutions for Game Audio!
I recently did a few studies alongside Earshot NGO to evaluate the effectiveness of Unreal Engine 5 paired with Wwise, and the results were quite impressive.
I’ve recreated some of these real-world situations in virtual spaces for acoustic simulation, here I've taken a scan of the real world environment, marked it up as thoroughly impossible whilst making sure all the scale & material coefficients are as accurate as possible; then reverse engineered the real world event to find the intervals between the shots & echoes to help prove the distance and location of a perpetrator(s).
